The majors have come and gone, the playoffs are finished and the Presidents Cup is over, but golf season is far from over.
At age 73, Hall of Famer Jack Nicklaus will headline an expanded field at this year's PNC Father/Son Challenge, joining with son Jackie Dec. 14-15 at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Fla.
This will mark Nicklaus' 15th appearance in the event, which returned to the schedule last December after a three-year hiatus. Defending champions Davis Love III and son Dru will return to defend their title against a field that includes former winners Raymond Floyd (1995-97, 2000-01), Larry Nelson (2004, 2007-08), Bernhard Langer (2005-06) and Hale Irwin (2003) in addition to Nicklaus, who won in 1999 alongside son Gary.
The field has been expanded this year from 18 to 20 two-person teams, with Stewart Cink and Nick Price making their debuts in the event alongside sons Connor and Greg, respectively. While most professionals are teaming with their sons, there are a pair of notable exceptions: Langer will play alongside his daughter Christina, while Fuzzy Zoeller will be joined by his daughter Gretchen.
Other participants in the 36-hole scramble, which boasts a $1 million prize purse, include David Duval, Steve Elkington, Nick Faldo, Lee Janzen, Sandy Lyle, Mark O'Meara, Dave Stockton, Curtis Strange, Vijay Singh, Lee Trevino and Lanny Wadkins.
To qualify for the event, players must have won either a major championship or Players Championship during their career. The 2013 participants have combined for 430 total victories across both the PGA and European Tours, including 59 major championships. – By Will Gray golfchannel.com
