Keys are used to unlock doors, and the five most important keys to unlocking the potential for improved ball striking are:
1) Flat left wrist
2) Weight forward
3) Steady head
4) Club face control
5) Path of the orbiting sweet spot
A golfer who has these five ingredients is, without question, a good ball striker. However, this does not necessarily mean he or she scores well. Hitting a golf ball and playing golf are two separate things. If one or more of these five keys is missing, then hitting a golf ball is elusive and often mysterious. I like to call it a blind struggle. My goal is for you to focus on one key at a time with proper drills and feedback to assist on the learning curve.
In conclusion, I would like to share a quote with you from Jack Nicklaus. At the PGA show in Orlando, FL, Jack Nicklaus conducted the opening ceremonies. He is an awesome speaker, and one profound statement I took from his speech is, "PRACTICE with a PURPOSE." Jack was very sincere when he stated that he never hit a ball on the practice range without a purpose, NEVER! My tip for this month is short and sweet–anytime you get a chance to practice, from putt to drive, put a purpose behind each and every swing. It worked for Jack!
