Good Friday afternoon from Classic Swing Golf School!
The weekend weather is predicted to be awesome, but if you must stay indoors be sure to check out The Northern Trust Open. It’s described among the most respected golf tournaments on the PGA TOUR. Held at historic Riviera Country Club, nestled amid the rolling hills of the Pacific Palisades just outside Los Angeles, the Northern Trust Open presents golfers with one of the game’s most challenging courses. The wind, the bunkers, the elevations, the trees. To succeed here, you need to use every club in your bag and every shot in your game.
It’s why Jordan Spieth refers to it as one of his top five golf courses in the world. It’s why Rory McIlroy, finally settled at his home in Florida after his Middle East swing, flew across the country to play the course for the first time.
“It’s a real thinker’s golf course, and it’s a real treat to play something like this,” McIlroy said.
Tournament week starts with Pro-Ams and practice rounds, as the pros acquaint (or reacquaint) themselves with the challenges Riviera presents. On Thursday and Friday tensions mount, with everyone focused on making the cut.
Saturday is moving day. With players vying to reach the top of the leaderboard, it’s now or never. Players must balance risk and reward as they try to make up ground — knowing that Riviera can be unforgiving to those who don’t get the balance right.
In the end, it often comes down to Sunday. It’s youth versus experience, with a little bit of luck thrown in for good measure. The stakes are high. The winner will capture the trophy and the rest will be left waiting for next year. – yahoosports.com exerpts from article be DOUG FERGUSON
